BOSTON, June 8 (UPI) -- Harvard Medical School has published "Cosmetic Surgery A to Z: A guide to common surgeries and skin treatments" to help U.S. adults seeking plastic surgery.

In 2004 almost 12 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the United States, a 44-percent increase from 2003. There is a lot of information on plastic surgery procedures, but much of it comes from marketing departments trying to promote the procedures, according to a statement by the Harvard Medical School.

The report, which costs $14, covers the most popular cosmetic procedures and surgeries including: chemical peels, laser treatments, skin resurfacing, liposuction, nose surgery, forehead lift, eyebrow lift, tummy tuck, breast augmentation and reduction.

It describes new advances in treatments, such as the recently approved procedure the Contour Thread Lift, a more subtle alternative to the face lift in which the patient is awake and can offer input as the surgeon inserts threads to combat sagging skin.
