NEWDELHI: Rekha could never figure out why her friends started avoiding her aftershe underwent a successful cosmetic surgery on the nose. The business managementstudent's efforts of looking more attractive after the surgery seemed to begoing astray.

Her colleaguesstarted disliking her due to the foul smell emanating from her nose and went tothe extent of lodging a complaint against her with the hostel warden.

Hersuspicion has now been proved right with the National Consumer Commissionholding the cosmetic surgeon guilty for deficiency in service for not informingthe patient that gauze pack should have been removed within a day of thesurgery.

The gauze decayedovertime and led to the foul smell, the commission president Justice M B Shahand member Rajyalakshmi Rao inferred while awarding Rekha a compensation of Rs1.1 lakh against the cosmetic surgeon and thehospital.

"The anguish of thisyoung girl who was shunned by her friends, college staff, hostel mates and wastold to stay away from them for no fault of hers is agony and insult beyonddoubt,"said thecommission.
