The Hobe Sound Extended Day Program will be open for the majority of the upcoming Christmas break. During the first week, we will be open Monday through Thursday with activities including our annual window shopping trip to Toys R Us, making gingerbread houses, Christmas art & crafts projects and the decorating of our EDP Christmas tree. During the second week of break, we will be open Tuesday through Thursday with activities including an all day Bounce House and a special visit from the "little ones" from Hobe Sound Child Care Center! The dates for FCAT have changed due to Hurricane Wilma. FCAT Writing will still be on February 7 and 8 for fourth graders. FCAT (Reading, Mathematics, and Science) will be administered the weeks of March 6 and March 13 for third, fourth and fifth graders. Please avoid scheduling appointments during these days. SAT10 for second graders is March 28-29.
Congratulations to , third grade teacher, who has been selected Pinewood's 2005-06 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. will be competing against other teachers in Martin County for the county title on February 10. Warfield was visited by members of Fellsmere Elementary school from Indian River County. The purpose of their visit was to see how data analysis is used in the classrooms and how unique reading, math and writing programs are being implemented to keep up our "A" grade. They were very impressed with what they saw throughout the school.

The High School students of Barnabas Christian Academy are invited to attend the annual Semi-Formal Christmas Dinner. American Government students continue to ascend to new and amazing heights of class participation! In their study, they have traced the nation's roots, examined the constitution, and dissected its forms of government on the national, state, and local levels. In the process, they have come to appreciate our constitutional, federal republic. In the final chapter of our one-semester course, we will look at what it means to be a citizen of the United States. The first basketball game of the season was a great hit. We enjoyed having this program back, having to eliminate it last year due to hurricane damage. Our next game is Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m., between the Hurricanes and Lightnings. Junior games are tentatively planned to begin Dec. 9. The Christmas shop is now open for all boys and girls, as well as parents, who might care to browse and shop for their Christmas gifts. They can take them home wrapped and ready to go under the Christmas tree. We are anxiously preparing for our Christmas program and, as usual, things are hopping around here.

The Ashley Carroll Center has been the center of much excitement recently as we approach the holiday season. Our fall middle school production featured three one-act plays last weekend! The art classes collaborated by constructing masks for "Herschel and the Hanukkah Goblins. Couch Potato Santa and Ebony Scrooge" allowed for a more contemporary version of Christmas cheer. On Tuesday the Early Childhood Department a.k.a. "Pilgrims and Indians" set the stage with songs and recitations about Thanksgiving. All the families were then invited to take part in the annual "Feastival" - a delicious meal of turkey and all the fixings - served by the teachers.
St. Michael's 5th grade Red Cross Club, which focuses on community involvement and leadership skills, is participating with their 2nd grade buddies in a holiday project of preparing and donating holiday stockings for 60 pre-schoolers from the Head Start Program of Port Salerno. On December 6th the club is taking a fieldtrip to the American Red Cross of Martin County to tour the facility and stuff the stockings!
Last week Mr. Lin Wang, Chinese Teacher, taught a traditional Chinese folk song "A Little Swallow" to the 8th grade Chinese Culture class. Coincidentally, the swallow was recently named as one of the five mascots "The Five Friendlies" for China's 2008 Olympics! Mr. Wang plays the two stringed Chinese violin and uses traditional Chinese music and songs to teach Chinese language and culture.
There will be a used uniform sale on Tuesday, Nov. 29. That evening all 7th and 8th grade students and families are invited to learn more about the Upper School Program at 7 p.m. in the Ashley Carroll Student Center. This week our chapel was very special as Pastor Gary explained the first Thanksgiving feast to us and also the symbolism of including corn with our meal. We are so blessed to have a pastor who speaks to us at every chapel and teaches us about the things of God. We are thankful for Pastor Gary.
Our third graders have been working hard on vocabulary. They have been learning the definitions of words such as craving, molasses, gooey, barrels and pitcher.
In fourth grade students have found this week to be very exciting. As a part of their unit on Florida, they went to Savannas Preserve for a field trip called "Chores on the Pineapple Plantation". They learned about pioneer life in Jensen Beach in the late 1800's. They pumped water, washed clothes on a scrubboard with lye soap, ground corn, and learned what native plants their great, great grandparents might have eaten way back then. It made them appreciate all modern conveniences. In science they researched and taught each other about coral reefs, and ways to protect coral from danger.
Our fifth graders tell us that they have so much to be thankful for. They have a great school, a great country and most importantly, a great God! They thank their parents for their love and guidance as they help them to grow into young men and women who love God.

The competition offers a great chance to meet students from other middle schools in our county and play a fun trivia game about our early presidents and this years' theme, "The 1970s". Registration for seniors for their spring classes continues through November. Students should see and to make an appointment to select schedules. Juniors will begin registering after the Thanksgiving break. Students are reminded that they need a 3.0 GPA and appropriate CPT scores to register for academic dual enrollment classes.

December 15 and 16 will be early release days and school will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. The end of the first semester is Dec. 16. Report cards will be sent out in January.
Attention Seniors: Remember that as on December 1st, you may go to the Bright Futures website and apply for your Bright Futures scholarships. Even if you are not currently eligible, you should still go on line and complete your application and then continue working on your eligibility. The website is: www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org .
There will be a final-final-final retake day for senior portraits on Tuesday, Nov. 29 from 3 to 4 p.m. This make-up day is only for the formal portrait for the yearbook. It is intended to allow students who missed the other senior portrait days, or whose photos were lost by bryn-alan, to still get their senior portrait in the yearbook. This final retake day will be held on campus, probably in the Media Center or the Auditorium. Stay tuned for further info as to the exact location.
PTSA announcement, Seniors, please bring in your labeled pics (no more than 5) to Room and place them in the Photo Drop Box. Don't forget pics from your days at MCHS, club activities, and other school events. We need everyone to participate. Your PTSA is planning a very special surprise at the end of the year. Please join us for another JBHS PTSA sponsored program on Thursday, December 1 from 7-8 p.m. in the Knowledge Center, entitled "Diversity Awareness" with facilitating. This coincides with Parent-Teacher Conferences. Refreshments will be served.

On Tuesday, Nov. 29, there is a Herff Jones Graduation Announcement meeting for Seniors from 11:15-11:40 a.m.; a Herff Jones Junior Class Ring meeting from 11:50 a.m.-12:15 p.m., and a boys' basketball game versus Jensen Beach, away, JV at 6 p.m., and Varsity at 7:30 p.m.
On Nov. 30, there is a 300 Club meeting at 10 a.m. in the conference room; all parents interested in helping are welcome to attend! There is also an Amnesty International pie sale; a girls' basketball game versus PSL, home, JV at 5:30 p.m., Varsity at 7 p.m.; and a boys' Varsity soccer game versus FPW, home, at 4 p.m.

The Christmas Festival will take place December 1st-4th on the St. Anastasia Soccer Field. We will be selling fraser fir Christmas trees, wreaths, handmade ornaments, sleigh gift sets, food, and baked goods. The trees range in size from 5/6 feet ($39), 6/7 feet ($49), 7/8 feet ($59), to 8/9 feet ($79). The fraser fir wreaths are $25 for a 24 inch wreath with a bow. We will be having early release on Nov. 30. The Holiday Band and Opus program will be performing. December 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the gym. will be returning December 13 and 14th for the last time to order senior caps and gowns during lunches.
Baseball- For all boys planning to try out for the Baseball team should attend a mandatory meeting on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 3:15 p.m. at the baseball field. Conditioning will begin Dec. 5. Try outs will be in January. Baseball Boosters meeting will be Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
HOMS is looking for high school students that need community service hours for tutoring middle school students. Tutoring takes place Tues. and Thurs from 4:00-5. You must have a B average or better.

Florida Atlantic University Honors College- Must submit an essay and have a school official complete a nomination form before December 15th. All scholarship applications are in the Guidance Department.
A "Thank You" goes out to all the clubs and classes that gave so generously to the this year. It was a huge success and an extra big thank you goes out to the Class of 2007 and for all there hard work in organizing the drive.
Also, another great big thank you goes out to for giving out 35 turkey dinners to families that live in the Martin County area for Thanksgiving. The Class of 2008 helped out with this project also by donating 11 turkeys from their class. In December the clubs and classes will be doing several things to make Christmas just a little nicer for some of the less fortunate. A couple of the things that they will be doing is gathering presents for the White Doves and going to the nursing homes with cookies for the patients. I think we can proudly say we are the best school in Martin County. Wouldn't you agree! Go Tigers!
Congratulations to She submitted her Veterans Day essay to the essay contest held by Creative Technologies, Inc. and it was selected for publication in their upcoming anthology. The article is now in the running for the top ten best essays! is also an outstanding athlete! She placed 5th in the state for the Woman's 100 Yard Back Stroke and 10th in the 200 Individual Medley.
Congratulations and good luck to the 2005-06 Boys and Girls Soccer teams! Our varsity boys won 3-2 over Vero Beach and our junior varsity boys won 1-0 over Vero Beach. Our varsity girls won 3-1 over Jensen Beach. Come out and support our teams. This weeks games: Our boys play @ Jensen Beach High School at 4:30 and 7 p.m. on Nov. 29 and our girls play @ Vero Beach at 4:30 and 7 p.m. on Nov. 28.
Tuesday, January 10th is the first day of Drivers Education for the third nine weeks. Class will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 3-5 p.m. in E-9. Maximum of 40 students and it is free! The annual IB program's Italian Night was held on Nov. 3, 2005. We want to thank and in Jensen Beach for their kind assistance and donations. We appreciate their support in helping to make the evening enjoyable for the IB students and their families. We also thank all the parent and student volunteers for their hard work and donations.
