If leg pain from varicose veins is slowing you down these days, tune in to WVIA-TV Channel 44's "Call the Doctor" to find out about less invasive procedures that can get you back on your feet again.

"Varicose Veins: The Latest Treatments" will air tonight at 7 on WVIA-TV and will feature several regional physicians specializing in the treatment of varicose veins, according to a news release.

Varicose veins affect approximately 25 million people. For some, the spider veins or varicose veins are a cosmetic concern only. For others, the bulging, protruding veins may leave legs feeling achy, heavy, tired or restless.

Varicose veins can also cause night cramps. According to the Society for Vascular Surgery, high blood pressure inside leg veins can contribute to varicose veins. In addition, family history, being overweight, lack of exercise, smoking and standing or sitting for long periods of time can increase your risk of developing varicose veins.

Several regional experts will be available to answer questions on the latest treatments for varicose veins. They are Dr. Todd Stefan, FACS, a vascular surgeon with Central Susquehanna Surgical Specialists in Lewisburg, and Dr. Laura Gruneiro, a vascular surgeon with Geisinger Health System.

In addition, Dr. John Becker, a radiologist with Susquehanna Imaging Associates in Williamsport, will be available to answer questions on non-surgical laser treatment for varicose veins.

Viewers may call in questions during the show at 1-800-326-9842. Interested viewers may also e-mail questions and comments to contactctd@ wvia.org.
