TRANSFORMING UGLY ducklings into beautiful swans. This is what the US hit series “Extreme Makeover” is all about. QTV11 brings the reality show to local viewers and gives it a local dimension.
“We've done this several times—putting Filipino subtitles on canned shows to localize it,” said Wilma Galvante, GMA 7 senior vice president for entertainment TV.
With various incarnations of beauty makeovers in practically every variety show on cable and free TV, “Extreme Makeover” is in for an extreme challenge. Why would TV audiences want to watch it?
To spice things up further, the network tapped two beauty experts to act as presenters each week—Dr. Pie Calayan, chief dermatologist of Calayan Surgicenter; and Jessica Rodriguez-Bunevacz, talent manager, beauty consultant and marketing director of Beverly Hills 6750 Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Institute.
Calayan has also had first-hand experience with makeovers, beginning with herself. “Eleven years ago, I had my eye bags removed surgically,” she admitted.
