Most folks in Winnebago, Boone and Ogle counties who go to plastic surgeons and other physicians to improve their looks undergo nonsurgical procedures, such as getting Botox injections and laser hair removal.

The local ratio mirrors the national one. Last year, nearly 11.5 million surgical and nonsurgical procedures were performed in the U.S., with nonsurgical procedures making up 81 percent of the total. Across the nation since 1997, nonsurgical cosmetic procedures have increased by 726 percent, with surgical procedures increasing 119 percent.
