The patient in the article did not have refractive lensectomy as stated, since she had cataracts. Refractive lensectomy is when the clear natural lens (not a cataract) is removed with an intraocular lens implanted for cosmetic reasons in order to reduce spectacle dependence. The patient underwent standard cataract surgery with a multifocal lens implant. The implant was new, not the surgery.

Mr. Wolf also stated that the, “FDA approved the procedure in March." The ReSTOR lens implant was approved, not the surgery. He also stated that Dr. Bhaskar was completing training in the procedure. Dr. Bhaskar has been performing state-of-the-art cataract surgery in Beloit for over 11 years. She is not undergoing training for a surgery she performs on a routine basis.
