In its early years, the company's bio-technology research labs delivered some stunning successes such as dairy cows that produce carbonated milk that doesn't have to be kept refrigerated, poultry that lay cubed, stackable eggs and cats that don't shed and whose feces smell and taste like strawberry cheesecake.

Critics complained that the carbonated milk could not be used in baking and that the strawberry cheesecake cat feces were too high in calories and too low in essential nutrients.

The Designer Genes labs also produced some whimsical creatures for sale as pets in recent years including the mini “Tortilla” (cross between tortoise and gorilla), the “Red Dog Beer-Dispensing Pup (a canine companion that urinates beer) and their best seller, the EZ-Rider Ewe (a small sheep with handles on the back end that was a tremendous sales success in some southern states and in Australia).
